Ako ima dovoljno vode, mo\u017ee rasti na istom mjestu deset godina. Za lijep rast potrebno mu je malo vi\u0161e prostora u usporedbi s drugim biljkama. Tvori veliku, grmoliku rozetu. Jestive su samo stabljike ru\u017ei\u010daste, tamnocrvene ili zelene, a li\u0161\u0107e je otrovno zbog visokog sadr\u017eaja oksalne kiseline. Rabarbara se bere ili kupuje od travnja do lipnja, a kasnije stabljike sadr\u017ee i previ\u0161e \u0161tetnu oksalnu kiselinu. Ako ga imamo u vrtu, mo\u017eemo koristiti i njegove cvatove \u2013 neposredno prije cvatnje beremo ih, kuhamo u slanoj vodi i pripremamo poput brokule.
